Occupational hygiene is about the prevention of ill-health from work, through recognising, evaluating, and controlling the risks.  The cover photo of the December issue of BOHS's journal,  Annals of Occupational Hygiene, draws attention to four papers in the issue about wood chips or pellets, which are increasingly used in power generation and local heating.  Off-gassing and oxygen depletion of these can cause death if they are not properly stored and handled. Occupational hygienists can help find cost-effective solutions to risks to health in workplaces of all types, large and small.    [Photo copyright P M Augustavo Photography]
